Round / Square Dowels
In concrete construction, dowel bars are used to transfer loads between adjacent slabs while allowing for slight movement between them. Dowels are inserted into one slab and extended into the other slab, creating a joint that can accommodate movement caused by changes in temperature or settlement of the building.
Their typical materials are high-strength steel and they are available in a variety of sizes and lengths.
A dowel is inserted first into the slab that is expected to remain stationary, usually an older or larger slab. Afterwards, they are extended into the adjacent slab. In order to ensure accuracy and precision, dowel sleeves are typically used to form the dowel holes.
Using round and square dowels helps to maintain the correct spacing and alignment between adjacent concrete slabs. In addition to keeping the slabs in place, they prevent them from shifting or becoming dislodged, which poses a serious safety risk.
