Accelerators & Additives
In order to improve the properties and performance of concrete, accelerators and additives are added to the mixture. By adding these substances to concrete, the setting time, strength, workability, and durability can be modified.
Concrete acceleraters are substances that are added to concrete in order to reduce the time needed for concrete to set, allowing for faster curing and early strength development. In cold weather conditions, concrete's setting time has a tendency to slow down, resulting in longer curing times and reduced strength development. A concrete accelerator can either be chemical or mineral-based, and it is usually added in small quantities.
In concrete, additives can be used to modify properties such as workability, strength, and durability. The addition of additives to concrete, such as plasticizers, superplasticizers, and air entrainers, improves its workability and makes it easier to place and finish. In addition to reducing the amount of water required in concrete mixtures, water-reducing admixtures may also result in improved strength and durability.
